Red Sea water
is
the proper environment Salina,
Dead
Sea Water not
Salina (Artemia salina) is a tiny
salt water shrimp of 5 mm living in the Saline Lake of Ras Mohammed National
Park/ Sharm El Sheikh / Egypt. You can bread baby shrimps from Salina
eggs-Eiern in the bottles of the previous experiment.
What
you need
5-ml syringe, eggs of salt water
shrimps (Artemia salina), Artemia food (Liquecell), spatula. Sea water
of the previous experiment, 4 more injection
bottles 5 ml, Dead Sea Salt.
Investigation
* Left: Distribute
the 5-ml sample of Red Sea water to 5 vials.
* Middle: Add a very
small quantity of shrimp eggs to each vial by a spatula.
* Place the vials horizontal
for best access of air for breathing.
* Roll the vials each 10
hours to mix water and air.
Results
* Right: After
two or three days at a warm place baby shrimps have hatched.
At 3N>
three of these white babies can be seen swimming between brown eggs (E).
* Baby shrimps will
also hatch in Red Sea water.
* No shrimps will develop
in Dead Sea water even if it contains as few salt as Red Sea water.
