Semolina
pudding food for flies
Left: Tiny flies can
be seen in great numbers wherever old fruits are. (Berger, Bild der Wissenschaft
9/1999).
* Middle: Stir a
pudding made of semolina, bee honey, yeast and water.
* Transfer a layer of this
pudding into some 50-ml vials.
* Place these vials at places
where fruit flies are abundant.
* As soon as about five
flies are inside a vial, lock it by placing a second vial bottom up on
it.
* Right: After two
weeks white worms are crawling up into the empty vial.
One week later they
will have transformed into brown motionless containers with two horns.
Finally new flies
are hatching from these houses like chicken from their eggs.
