So 9 Red soil contains magnetic iron compounds

Left: Red soil obtains its colour by red iron compounds. These soils are very common in Afica, Australia and South America. It is also present in an area 50 km off Lauterbach near to Lich ("Eiserne Hose").
* Pound red soil, dry and sieve it. Do the same with other soils (loam, sand).
* Middle: Put a magnet (from an old loudspeaker) into a plastic pouch, * Move it in the soil.
* Observation Right: Black magnetic particles are collected on the plastic surface.
* By moving the magnet inside the pouch the black particles are following.
* Explanation:  Many soil samples contain magnetic iron ore.
  Magnetic iron ore can be separated from many soils by strong magnets.
