9. Dyeing fibers: a) Acid dyes (Acid Blue 25, Acid Red 87), b) Vat dye (Indigo --> blue jeans), Universal Indicator for fibres

3 dyeing activities are offered. In each one you will find  5-mL vials with warmed dye solutions, “multifibers 6”  and pieces of pure cotton or wool.
What you will need
Dyes: Acid Blue 25 = Eosin Y (AB), Acid Red 87 (AR), Indigo Vat Blue 1 (IV),  ID Stain # 1 (ID1), ID Stain # 3a (ID3).
Fibres: MULTIFIBRE 6 (Testfabrics Inc.), pieces of pure cotton, wool gabardine.
vials 5 and 50 ml, Leukosilk as lables, tweezers, tissue paper, straw spatula, 3 hot plates.
Experiment
Photo 1 and 2: Multifibre 6 -composed of 6 different fibres  (Cellulose triacetate, cotton, nylon, polyester, polyacryl, wool)-  is cut into 5 test stripes (9 x 55 mm).
Photo 3: Dyeing takes place in stoppered and labled 5-mL vials
Photo 4: After washing in water you observe different dyeing of the 6 fibres. Three dyeing experiments in details.
