A light emitting diode proved that the two components
of a margarine substitute show different electric conducitivities.
Electric conductivity can be measured by using a multimeter.
Never
use electricity from a socket, this MAY BE DEADLY! * Build an open
circuit using a 9-Vol battery, 3 wires with crocdile clips, a multimeter
and two small nails insulated
by a rubber stopper.
* Left: Aluminium,
copper and carbon (C) from the previous experiment
are excellent conductors (> 10 mA).
* Middle: Sulfur
(S) does not conduct electricity at all (0.00 mA). Sulfur is an insulator.
Right:
Tap water is a weak conductor (2.18 mA), distillierted water a bad conductor
(0.2 mA).
Explanation:
Solutions of salts (Cola), pencil leads (C)
and metals are conductors
for electricity.
