Weigh water
.
Left:
More than 4000 years ago scales were used in Egypt to weigh gold.
Photo 2: It is childishly
easy to handle such a scale: As soon as its two pans contain
things of the same "weight" they are on the same level. The scale is balanced.
Photo 3: Aluminium
closures of Liquemin bottles are suitable weights. One German
Pfennig coin (2.0 g) is balanced by 10 of these closures.
Right: The children
have placed 1 closure on the right pan as a weight. They balanced the
scale by adding 4 drops of sea water on the left pan.
Test
it:
Bring one weight on the right pan. Add drops of water from a dropper bottle
(or a syringe) to the left pan. Count how many drops are needed to balance
the scale.
Hang
up the scale. Observe how it has changed after 1 hour.
