In Europe
honey was used to sweeten until the Middle Ages. In India sugar was produced
from sugar-cane already more than 2000 years ago.

Left:
It is hard labour to harvest the canes by cutting them off above the bottom,
tearing off the leaves and carrying them on a car.

Middle:
This boy "processes" sugar cain with his teeth. The marrow is a sweet and
healthy "chewing gum".

Right:
Processing sugar cain in a factory: Crushing, squeezing, cleaning, concentrating
by boiling, ....
A similar procedure takes place in Germany where sugar-beets are processed
back.......
