Each of the two O atoms
(red beads) has 3 sp2 hybrid orbitals represented by one round
and two pear-shaped microbeads.
* The electron pair of the
sigma
bond is modelled by the golden and the white microbead,
* the four lone pairs of
electrons are modelled by the pear-shaped golden and white microbeads.
Each of the two O atoms
also has an unhybridized p orbital forming a pi
bond represented by the green-yellow plastic loop which is perpendicular
to the plane of the sigma skeleleton.
