Two-pan balance to measure the mass of aluminium for density
Photo 1: Egyptian
two-pan scale for weighing gold made in the time of the New Empire. Its
beam is made of wood, the scale are from copper. Weights in the shape of
a bull head, a dug and a ram were casted from bronze and filled with lead
for gauging.
Photo 2: Low-cost
two pan scales of reasonable sensibility are still made in Cairo´s
Khan el Khali bazaar. 1-gram weights can be cut from copper wire or square
paper and divided into smaller units.
Photo 3: The
aluminium pieces of the previous experiment
were weighed on a Russian two pan scale.
The density of
aluminium will be calculated by dividing its mass by the volume.
